Avanti II Overview

The Piaggio Avanti II is a twin-engine turboprop aircraft manufactured by Piaggio Aerospace in Italy and recognised for its distinctive three-surface aerodynamic design. Combining turboprop efficiency with performance approaching that of many light jets, it offers a range of approximately 1,500 nautical miles and high cruise speeds for regional and medium-range missions. The aircraft typically accommodates up to seven passengers in a spacious stand-up cabin that is notably larger than many aircraft in its category. From a passenger perspective, the Avanti II delivers a comfortable cabin environment, reduced travel times and efficient access to regional destinations.

Aircraft Features

Range and Performance

The Piaggio Avanti II offers a maximum range of approximately 3,320 km and cruises at speeds comparable to many light jets. This enables non-stop flights such as London to Rome or Paris to Athens, making it well suited to regional and medium-range travel. Its combination of turboprop efficiency and high cruise performance allows passengers to reach destinations quickly while maintaining operating flexibility and access to smaller airports.

Cabin Comfort and Configuration

The Piaggio Avanti II typically accommodates six to seven passengers in an executive configuration, with some layouts seating up to nine occupants. The cabin features a single spacious zone with a four-seat club arrangement in the rear and additional forward seating. Despite its turboprop design, the stand-up cabin is wider than many light jets, while the rear-mounted engines help reduce cabin noise and vibration, creating a comfortable environment for regional and medium-range travel.

Onboard Amenities

The Piaggio Avanti II offers one of the most spacious cabins in the turboprop category, with a stand-up interior, executive club seating and a fully enclosed lavatory. Rear-mounted engines contribute to exceptionally low cabin noise levels, while advanced climate control and large windows enhance passenger comfort. A refreshment centre, in-flight accessible baggage compartment and optional connectivity and entertainment systems provide practicality for both business and leisure travel.

Technology and Flight Deck

The Avanti II introduced a Collins Pro Line 21 digital avionics suite, replacing earlier instrumentation with a glass cockpit that supports clearer navigation, weather and systems monitoring. Its Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-66B turboprops and pusher configuration contribute to strong speed and fuel efficiency, while helping keep the cabin layout spacious and practical.

Avanti II Certification

The Piaggio P.180 Avanti II was developed as an upgraded version of the original Avanti, with early orders announced in 2005. It received EASA certification in October 2005, followed by European and U.S. approval in November 2005. The first aircraft was delivered to a Swiss customer on 23 December 2005 and entered service in January 2006 from Lugano Agno Airport, marking the model’s operational introduction.
